Australia - Visual Artist
Liz O’Brien is an emerging interdisciplinary visual artist from the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia, working within analogue photographic processes. Having experimented throughout her studies with various photographic processes, O’Brien has grounded her practice in combining traditional darkroom techniques with modern methods of digital printing and image manipulation. Her key practices in creating her works include use of expired film types, pinhole photography, liquid light emulsion and incorporating textiles and salvaged materials into her printing and installation methods.
The conceptual concerns of O’Brien are cemented in exploring varying influences on an individual’s identity and experiences of disconnection and isolation from community, relationships and environment. Merging traditional and modern photographic technologies to capture emotive imagery of gestural, performative human figures and natural environments, O’Brien presents her conceptual concerns in an intimate, reflective manner open to the personal interpretations of her audiences.
